Can cream prevent stretch marks from happening?
The short answer to this question is not so simple...
No matter what any company or sales person wants to tell you, nobody can guarantee that you won't get stretch marks from your pregnancy, simply because there are so many factors that determine your chances. Things like your rate of growth, your genetics (ie. if your mother had them), your diet, the amount you exercise, and how often you moisturize and what you moisturize with will all effect your success.
That said, there are certain things you can do to take care of your skin that can drastically lower the chances of getting stretch mark scars, which is good news. One of these things is to start using the right cream to prevent stretch marks as early on in your pregnancy as possible.
Using a cream designed to prevent stretch marks is important because it helps stimulate your natural skin regeneration process by increasing the production of collagen and elastin in the epidermis layer, as well as strengthening your skin and making it more elastic. This helps your skin better deal with the rapid tissue growth that occurs.
So what should you be looking for in a good cream that prevents stretch marks? Well, first off, you want a cream that has only 100% natural ingredients - nothing chemical. This is the most important thing. Lots of moisturizers found in drug stores and chemists are full of chemicals that could potentially harm your baby, and we don't want that. Your best bet is to go with a product that has been specifically designed for pregnant women. Other than that some good ingredients to look for are vitamin E, squalene oil, cucumber extract, aloe vera, and grapefruit extract.
Once you've found a good cream that will do the trick, it's important to apply it regularly (at least 3 times/day), and especially when you get out of the bath or shower, when your skin is dry. Your objective is to keep your skin healthy and moisturized at all times so that stretch marks never even have a fighting chance at showing up to the party!
And - as a final note, following a proper diet, drinking lots of water, gaining weight gradually, and getting lots of exercise are also great tools you can use to help your chances against stretch marks, so be sure to talk to your doctor and make some plans. Good luck!
